These tops are freestanding, providing more air circulation, and can be mounted in several locations on the boat. The heavy duty canvas provides opaque shade to those beneath it and the rear braces ensure the bimini is steady and doesn't significantly rattle side to side while the boat is in motion. Use the forward tension straps to help keep the canvas snug and taut, or unclip the straps if you want to close the bimini without having to unbolt the rear braces. Our 600 denier polyester canvas is solution dyed so the color particles are embedded into the polyester fiber itself, reducing fade and eliminating bleed. Our cover holds up to temperature extremes and will not crack, shed, or disintegrate due to cold; it won't shrink or stretch, and is designed to resist overall wear-and-tear. Denier is a measurement of the tear strength of the fabric and ours can be used while the boat is in motion, up to 25mph. IMPORTANT: If you plan to travel at faster speeds with the top open, special installation steps and additional hardware may be required. While our bimini top canvas is lighter than 100% cotton canvas, it's not made from flimsy "oxford cloth" either. Tighten them to tip the bimini forward and help prevent lofting damage. Measuring for a bimini is easy as 1, 2, 3. Simply decide how much shade you'd like front to back (measurement 1), then decide how tall you would like the bimini to rise above the mounting points (measurement 2). Lastly, but most importantly, measure from one side to the other between the indicated mount points (measurement 3). Then, just check these three measurements against the listing you are considering.
