I unpacked this futon and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It expanded to its full thickness in the 24-hour period of time stated. I haven't slept on it, but I did read while lying on it one day and found it to be comfortably firm. I have a nice zippered cover for it, or I would have been unhappy about the surface material, which is a shiny polyester. It's also not black, but more of a washed charcoal color.
