this hat is very sturdy ( stiff) covered in woolreal u s army cavalry hats (post civil war) are black fedorasthis hat mocks the civil war. I bought the navy even though I am from the south , I just tell people my great great grandfather captured an union soldier then relieved him of his hat.I also put metal cavalry cross sabres above the braids to add to the affect of the hat. affect as in little kids smile when they see my hat,a hat that is very hard to find.
